What do you see when you look in the mirror? To be honest, I used to see the college weight gain, the pimples, my dark course hair, my huge thighs, I could go on and on. It is so hard in today’s world to not compare ourselves to others and it seems like talking bad about ourselves is just something that is normal in daily conversations with others. But, I’ve gotten to the point where I want women to feel good in their own skin and to spread positivity about themselves because how are others supposed to see the beautiful gift you are if you are speaking negative about yourself? Today I would like to discuss with y’all five steps to feel good about yourself so that you can see how wonderful you have been created!
Meditation
One way that you can focus on yourself is with meditation. In mediation, you can truly focus on yourself and focus on feeling good about the person you are. If you don’t know where to start, download an app. There are plenty of them on the app store, just type in mediation and many will pop up!
Self Affirmations
Okay, this one might sound super silly but trust me, it works! I try on clothes A LOT and changing and looking in the mirror to find the perfect outfit can get frustrating especially if clothes from last season don’t fit anymore. What I have started doing is when I feel bad about myself and I am in front of a mirror I say “you are beautiful” “you are confident” “you are unique” and I truly believe those things and everything that I felt bad about before, I forget and I focus on the good things about me.
Surround Yourself With Positive People
This one is HUGE. Surrounding yourself with people who will talk bad about you or don’t lift you up when you feel bad is very unhealthy. I definitely have been there before in a few seasons of my life whether it was a boy I was dating or a friend group I associated myself with. It is toxic y’all and if you’re nervous about getting out, I guarantee you, you will be fine and even better off without them. When you surround yourself with people who think you’re beautiful inside and out, your perspective changes and what others thing, doesn’t matter anymore because you have your awesome support group.
Appreciate Everything Your Body Can Do
This is something that I think I take for granted is how blessed I am that God made me into a super athletic person. It is so easy to compare ourselves to others because it is so easy to see what others have and what we don’t. Find what you can do with your body whether its swimming, running, yoga, kick boxing, you name it, and celebrate that you are good at that!
Get Rid of Your Scale
What I’ve learned from research is that having a scale is actually super unhealthy if you have issues with your body. SIZE IS JUST A NUMBER LADIES! We can all get so focused on what the scale says but does the scale say that you are super muscular? Does it say that you have a super kind heart? Does it say you’re a good listener? Most importantly does it say that you are beautiful inside AND out?
To conclude, I hope that all of y’all find one thing on this list that is helpful and reminds you that you are beautiful and what others think and say doesn’t matter. I know that it’s easier said than done but I want to leave y’all with something that my mom used to tell me and still tells me and I am 20 years old “You’re good enough, you’re strong enough, and dog gonnet, people love me!”
