(Yes, I am sharing a photo from my freshman year. Enjoy! π
The joys of a fresh start! I remember that my first week of high school was filled with lots of volleyball and lots of signing up for activities. The first week of high school can be scary. It’s a new setting, sometimes bigger than what you’re used to, but it’s the transition from being a kid into a young adult. Sounds intimidating right? Well the good news is that it gets better after the first week but, if you were like me, stressed and confused, then you’ve come to the write place because I’m here to cheer you on and help you conqueror that crazy week! By the time you walk through those doors for the first time, you will be so confident and ready for you’re next four years! Some tips:
Join 3 Organizations
Joining clubs or activities is a great way to meet new friends especially if it’s a club or activity that you’re interested in! It can help you make friends super fast which is always awesome! Don’t join more than three!! I joined so many clubs my first year of high school and it was so over whelming and I couldn’t fully commit to all of them. My sophomore year I dropped about half the clubs I joined freshman year and I was way more involved!
Try To Sit With Someone New Each Day
The good thing about the first week of high school is that no one will remember who sat with who or who thought they were going to be friends with who. Try sitting with someone new everyday so you get to know your classmates and you might even find your friend group!
Make Sure You Get To Know Your Teachers
I’ve always been a sucker for getting to know my teachers. Maybe it’s because I want to be one but, it’s always good to know them so that you feel comfortable asking questions and getting help if you need it over the upcoming year. I did not do this my freshman year and I regret it so much because I was so scared to talk to them and ask questions that it actually hurt my grades. If I could go back and change that I would!
Make Sure You Have All Of Your Supplies
Teachers are usually pretty lenient with freshman because they know you are transitioning into high school but, they also expect some responsibility so, make sure that when you get your supply list on the first day, you go and get everything so you are prepared!
Jot Down Some Goals For Your Next 4 Years ( you won’t regret this)
One thing I really enjoyed this year was being able to look at the goals I set freshman year and seeing how I did. It’s so fun to think that freshman year I wanted to be a class president and the spring before my senior year I was elected! I had totally forgot I had wanted to do that! It’s crazy! Some examples of some goals to write down would be, things you want to try, grades you want to make, classes you want to take, etc.
I promise that if you follow these steps your first week will be a breeze! Looking back now with only 22 days left of my senior year, I wish I had known about these steps on my first week! Lastly, enjoy every minute of high school! It’s a super fun time of growth and maturing into who you are. You get freedom like an adult without having to do any of the boring stuff so, enjoy it while it’s lasts!
