Homecoming is something I have always looked forward to since I started high school freshman year. I love the fancy dresses, dancing, and just having fun with friends. Sadly now of days between the dress, dinner, flowers, and mums and garters, homecoming has become a very costly event. I myself go to a school where homecoming isn’t just a casual Sunday dress event. Ours is formal and most of the time girls wear gowns because its easier to follow the rules if you wear a long dress. I struggle sometimes with the prices of dresses because I have so many dances in one year that I don’t want to put down$100 on a dress every few months, it starts to add up at the end of the school year. So how do you shop for a homecoming dress that is tasteful yet inexpensive? Luckily I’ve had some luck of finding some that are not as pricy put still look great, so i’ll give you some of my do’s and don’ts of homecoming shopping.
Do: I am a huge fan of shopping online before I go to the store. I love mapping out exactly what I want and then going to try it on at the store and buy it. It makes shopping a lot easier I think personally. Dillard’s is a store that always has super nice homecoming dresses, the only issue is that once you get to the store you are overwhelmed with gorgeous dresses and you grab whatever catches your eye. By the time you get to the dressing room you have about 30 dresses on 3 different hooks, and when you find that jaw dropper dress you love, you check the tag and its $165 and you back at square one without a dress and heart broken. Yes, this story is very detailed because it has happened to me a few times now and probably some of y’all too. I now go online at Dillards and I figure out what is a good price to spend on a dress and I only look at those dresses and when I get to the store I find those dresses and try them on. Now when I find a dress I won’t be disappointed because I know I can buy it. Tj Maxxx also has some formal dresses that can range from $50- $70 which is great for a dress! Nordstrom rack, promgirl.com, and Lulus are also great places to look at dresses because you can put in your price range and what style you want and it will give you pages of dresses to choose from which I love.
Don’t: Everyone knows homecoming is all about the dress, but I know so many people that spend a lot of money on a dress and then go and by $90 shoes to match it just to wear for one night, how ridiculous is that? Well luckily, Marshalls, Ross, and Tj Maxxx are great places to get shoes at a discount they have so many styles and I’ve never been disappointed in a shoe I’ve gotten from there. Also who says you have to have the blinged out shoes? Every girl takes her shoes right when she gets into the gym, so why buy shoes you’re only going to wear once? Try to pick a shoe that you could see your self wearing at a family event or a wedding or even church. You will get many more wears out of the shoes if you find one you can wear more than once.
Do: One thing that my family does as a senior privilege is that my mom will take me to get my nails and hair done for senior prom which I think is pretty special. I never get my hair or nails or even makeup done anywhere for prom. What I do is I look up easy hairstyles on Pintrerst pin after pin will be step-by-step tutorials on how to do each hairstyle and y’all would not believe how easy it is to do some of these hairstyles! Also if you have a friend thats really good at hair and makeup, invite her and a few more girls over to get ready. It will be a lot more fun and affordable and you’ll probably look back on it in a few years and remember the memories of having girl time before going to the dance.
Homecoming doesn’t have to be pricy if you follow these do’s and don’ts and the best part is that no one will know that you didn’t blow your wallet out for one night because you will be looking fabulous!
I hope y’all enjoyed! feel free to comment on my blog and tell me what y’all thought! Caio! 🙂
